Jo Arney,Assistant Professor,University of Wisconsin La Crosse In a course called UWL 100 we used Facebook for a group project. UWL 100 has a number of themes and we were looking for a way to tie those themes together for a final discussion. We created a course facebook group. We asked the students to complete a photo scavenger hunt and upload it to the course facebook group. We do have a webbased course management systems at our university but photos are much easier to share on facebook. The assignment was as follows: Each group will also participate in a photo scavenger hunt. The goal of this activity is to take creative digital photos (preferably with all of your group members in each one) related to each theme in the class. In other words, what you are “hunting” for is the perfect photo to represent each theme in the class. These themes will become very familiar to you throughout the semester. We will be covering each one of them in some manner. You can see the planned activities and the discussion questions related to each theme by looking at the syllabus and the discussion questions on D2L.Your photos may be a straightforward representation of a theme, such as taking a group photo while attending the required play Escape from Happiness (Expanding Aesthetic Experience), or may be more creative. You should join the UWL 100 Section 12 Fall 09 Facebook group to share and upload these photos.
